ROME (AP)—Samuel Eto’o and Diego Milito scored second-half goals as Inter Milan beat Parma 2-0 Sunday to stay within two points of Serie A title rivals Juventus and Sampdoria.
Eto’o scored from the edge of the area in the 71st minute at the San Siro and Milito collected a pass from Maicon to tally in the 89th. The result gave Inter seven points from three games, two fewer than Juventus, which beat Lazio 2-0, and Sampdoria, which edged Atalanta 1-0.
“Inter did what it needed to win a difficult game after two weeks of national team matches and with our thoughts already on Wednesday’s game against Barcelona,” Inter coach Jose Mourinho said, referring to his squad’s Champions League opener.
AS Roma rallied for a 2-1 win over 10-man Siena in Claudio Ranieri’s first match since replacing Luciano Spalletti as the Giallorossi’s manager.
LONDON (AP)—Damien Duff lifted Fulham out of the Premier League relegation zone and up to halfway with the winner in a 2-1 victory over Everton, while Aston Villa beat neighbor Birmingham 1-0 thanks to late goal by Gabriel Agbonlahor.
Next-to-last Everton went ahead after 33 minutes at Craven cottage when Tim Cahill headed home a left-wing free kick. But Paul Konchesky equalized in the 57th with a shot that deflected off defender Sylvain Distin.
Duff scored the second in the 79th when he ran at the Everton defense, pulled the ball onto his favored left foot and beat American goalkeeper Tim Howard from just outside the area.
The result lifted Fulham eight places to 10th while Everton, which finished fifth last season, remains 19th in its worst start since manager Davis Moyes arrived at the club in March 2002.
Agbonlahor headed home an 85th minute winner at St. Andrews and Villa climbed to sixth.
Chelsea moved three points clear at the top by winning 2-1 at Stoke, while Manchester United triumphed 3-1 at Tottenham to move into second on Saturday. Manchester City beat Arsenal 4-2 and Liverpool outplayed Burnley 4-0.
Blackburn beat Wolves 3-1, Sunderland defeated Hull 4-1, Wigan edged West Ham 1-0 and Bolton won 3-2 at last place Portsmouth which has no points from five games.
MADRID (AP)—David Villa scored twice and Valencia beat Valladolid 4-2 in the Spanish league.
Valencia went ahead in the 10th minute through David Silva. The Spain midfielder fed a pass down the left wing to Juan Manuel Mata, who sent a cross back for Silva to head in from close range.
Also on Sunday, Tenerife beat Osasuna 2-1, Deportivo La Coruna beat Malaga 1-0, Villarreal drew 1-1 against Mallorca, Sporting Gijon beat Almeria 1-0 and Athletic Bilbao beat Xerez 1-0 to also start the season perfectly.
Barcelona leads the standings on goal difference ahead of Real Madrid, Valencia and Athletic with all four clubs having the maximum six points after two rounds.
FRANKFURT (AP)—Schalke scored early in each half to win 2-1 in Cologne and jump to third place in the Bundesliga, while Hannover fell to sixth with a 0-0 draw at Werder Bremen.
Jefferson Farfan scored with a diving header, but Lukas Podolski tied it with his first goal since returning to Cologne from Bayern Munich. One minute into the second half, Farfan released Levan Kobiashvili on the left and the midfielder chipped a shot inside the far post to secure the victory for Felix Magath’s team.
Schalke now has 10 points in third, three points behind Hamburger SV and Bayer Leverkusen. Cologne, the only team without a win, remained at the bottom with one point.
AMSTERDAM (AP)—Feyenoord beat Willem II 3-2 to tie PSV Eindhoven at the top of the Dutch standings, while Ajax routed NAC Breda 6-0 for its 700th home win in the league.
PSV beat Roda JC 3-0 on Saturday to get to 14 points. Feyenoord and Twente, which edged previously unbeaten FC Utrecht 3-2 on Saturday, also have 14—one more than Ajax.
PARIS (AP)—Paris Saint-Germain lost for the first time this season with a 2-0 loss at Monaco to drop to fifth in the French league.
Also Sunday, Cedric Hengbart helped Auxerre beat Nice 2-0 and end his team’s scoring drought in the league, and Rennes edged Saint-Etienne 1-0 to move into sixth place.
LISBON, Portugal (AP)—Sporting Braga continued its perfect start to the Portuguese league season with a 2-1 win at Maritimo that moved it back to the top of the standings.
In Sunday’s other games, Olhanense beat Academica 2-1 and Setubal and Leiria played to a 0-0 draw.
