Too many 'ifs' for Djokovic to upset Federer's final US Open hurdle

Roger Federer v Novak Djokovic (US Open semi-final - put back to Sunday because of rain):

Federer enters this semi-final knowing he has a chance to make history with a sixth straight title. Writing history is something the world No.1 has grown very accustomed to through his illustrious career. He holds nearly every record known to man in the world of tennis.

After a slow start to his 2009 season, Federer has exploded into form as the US Open reaches its climax. Having won the Western & Southern Financial Group Masters tournament in Cincinnati, he has carried his good form on the hard surface straight into the tournament he has dominated for half a decade.

During his run to the 2009 semi-finals, he has dropped only two sets in his first five matches. Quarter-finalist Robin Söderling put up a valiant effort to force a fifth set after going down 2-0, but came up short in the fourth set tie-break.

He had dominated the opening two sets but conceded the third set in a dramatic tie-break. He held serve throughout the match.
