Soccer: United gets 1-0 away win at Jabloteh

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad Christian Gomez’s penalty was all D.C. United needed for a 1-0 win at San Juan Jabloteh in the CONCACAF Champions League on Tuesday night.

Noel Williams handled the ball inside the box to give United the penalty in the 14th minute. Gomez sent a low, hard shot in to the left corner past goalkeeper Cleon John.

Both teams entered pointless after two Group B games. Mexico’s Toluca plays Marathon of Honduras on Thursday.

D.C. United keeper Milos Kocic had to withstand several shots, and was actually beaten twice by Jabloteh’s Jason Marcano.

He chipped a ball over Kocic in the 36th minute, but it went off the post. In the 42nd Marcano’s lob was cleared off the line by Julius James.

Jabloteh faded in the second half, though 17-year-old substitute Jerrel Britto sent a header over in the 72nd minute.
